So I have a big announcement. One I've been wanting to hint about for sometime, but did my best to keep secret. I'M ENGAGED! TO A WOMAN! TO BE MARRIED! pretty exciting huh? thus the all caps. So here's the basic story, that I know everyone is going to ask. Last week I told Stephanie that I had to spend all day wednesday and thursday working on the other side of campus with another professor's students and that I would be gone all day. And of course my boss's classes would be on those two nights of the week, leaving me unable to see/be seen by her. I left out lots of things like my bike clothes and even set up some fake reactions so it would look like I was around, and my whole group except my boss thought I was on campus. What really happened is that I got on a 6 am bus to NYC where I met up up with Lea Ann to go to Tiffany's. I'll pause here to let the ladies breathe. I then purchased a fantastically beautiful ring (LA was less than helpful) spent the evening with LA, including one conversation on the phone with stephanie where I told her all about my boring day in lab. Then I caught an early bus home thursday morning and immediately walked up to her lab to say how boring my day had been working with our collaboraters on the other side of campus, then spent the rest of the afternoon helping her print a poster for her research. at some point in there i slept, but i had to pretend not to be sleepy because it's not like i'd gone to nyc or anything right? sunday was our 3 year anniversary and to celebrate I made her a super fancy meal, with lots of candles, roses, music, etc and I gave her a nice piece of pottery as her gift (so she wouldn't think she was getting anything else)-oh she's a potter in case you didn't know, when she's not being a chemist-after dessert she wanted to go for a walk and i said i had a better idea, many years ago on a 4th of july long past i had taught several of my friends to two-step and had done a bad job with stephanie because I actually liked her and was nervous dancing with her, so i told her i wanted to make it up to her and put on some music, had ourselves a nice little slow dance, and then i told her i loved her, and i wanted to spend the rest of my life with her, and that's why i wanted her to have this (except in gold): http://www.tiffany.com/expertise/engagement/engagement.aspx?style=tiffany&ring=tiffany she said yes :) |
